I decided to create a blog that depicts dull colors and simplistic objects, because I believe this truly reflects a universal feeling of relaxation and, in this, one knows what to expect upon further navigation of the site. The apple found on the home page of my blog offers the viewer with a clear connection and understanding of a food that is fairly relative and known by many people, as well, an apple is symbolic of an academic environment. Similarly, books are reflective of any scholastic atmosphere, but what I felt was most important about the bookshelf is in its interactive and aesthetic qualities. As the reader scrolls down the pages reading through my essays, the book shelf simultaneously moves down to create the feeling of browsing through the many books on the shelf. Additionally, the muted and soft colors are meant to ease the nerves of the reader so that he or she can focus entirely on the writing and comprehend it without the distraction of any over-the-top, superfluous designs.
I believe that the design and format of my blog is very applicable to the subject of my essays. My presentation piece focuses on a man named Norman who leads a very normal life which is void of anything out of the ordinary, and remains within the realm of social expectation. Likewise, the design of my blog remains within the confines of expectation and understanding, and refrains from dealing with anything abnormal. Thus, the format found in the writing on my site fits a standard tone that aims to display the, “normal” and “ordinary” aspects established in my presentation essay so that there is an expectation and understanding across all of my writing. I believe that all of these design choices I have made aid in the complete understanding of and immersion into the universal subject of normalcy, found in my presentation essay.
